About the Vercors
Located between the Northern Alps and Provence, The Vercors offers spectacular landscapes with gorges, vertical rocks and high plateaus. The Vercors range forms a natural fort that stretches from Grenoble in the north to Die in the South. Its highest summit, the Grand Veymont reaches 2,341 metres at its peak. In 1970, the Vercors became one of the first Regional Parks created in France.
The plateau's karstic area includes the famous Vercors Cave System which includes Gouffre Berger.
YUCPC have visited the region 4 times in 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2008 with another planned trip for 2011. The clubs' envolvement in the area has been mostly limited to 'holiday' style trips rather than expeditions to discover new caves.
