About Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. It is a peninsula of almost 7 square kilometres whose isthmus connects to the north with Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. At its foot is the densely populated city area, home to almost 30,000 Gibraltarians and other nationalities.

The Rock has a long miltary history and is littered with tunnels and armorments left over from previous wars. Asside from being a facinating place to visit, it's also filled with some spectacular caves. St. Micheals Cave is the best known of the caves on Gibraltar and the upper part is a show cave containing an actual concert hall in a large chamber. Lower St. Micheals Cave (not open to every-day tourists) contains some spectacular formations and lakes.
