In addition to our day trips to the Yorkshire Dales or Peak District, we have regular trips lasting anywhere from a weekend to a week. The accommodation varies in it's scummyness but it has one thing in common - it's always cheap! The accommodation normally is in a cottage owned by a bigger club such as South Wales Caving Club in Wales or TSG in Derbyshire. Although we usually have the place to ourselves, there is often the opportunity to meet people from other clubs to swap drunken stories and experiences of caving exploits.
Bull Pot Farm
Bull Pot Farm is the home of the Red Rose Cave and Pothole Club. The cottage is situated high on Casterton Fell right next to the Ease Gill cave system offering a large choice of caves and through trips.
YSS Schoolhouse
This is a converted school house in the village of Helwith Bridge which is about 6 miles from Ingleton. It is the base of the Yorkshire Subterranean Society and a great location for dales caving. The Schoolhouse offers comfortable and warm bunkrooms, an excellent drying room, a good kitchen, and the opportunity to meet the other caving clubs that are often also in residence.
The Chapel
The TSG hut is a converted 19th Century Methodist chapel, extended by the addition of the 'garage'. Located in the centre of Castleton, home to the Peak/Speedwell Cavern system, including the famous Titan Shaft discovered in 2000, and a close to lots of the other well known caves of the Peak district, such as Giants Hole, Maskhill Mine and Oxlow Cavern.
The Mineries
Located near the village of Priddy in Somerset, the cottage is owned by Shepton Mallet Caving Club. The cottage has a huge upstairs bunk room easily sleeping 25+ cavers and is ideally located in the Mendips caving area with caves such as Swildon's Hole, Eastwater Cavern and St Cuthbert’s Swallet only a short walk away. And of course, the local pub; The Hunters' Lodge, is just down the road offering drinking late into the night.
Powell Street
The SWCC cottage is the home of South Wales Caving Club and is actually a string of old miners cottages on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The cottages are idealy situated around (over actually) the Ogof Ffynnon Ddu cave system (OFD) and so offer the best base for caving in the area.
